More than half of the snowy accidents happen during the precipitation. Truck accidents are included within these statistics.
So, what are some issues that are unique to truckers in bad weather? Here are some examples:
- The larger the vehicle, the longer it takes to stop it. Think of the size of a big rig when you make a decision to hastily cut in front of it in any kind of weather.
- Jackknifing becomes more of a risk in bad weather. What does this mean exactly? When a truck skids on a slippery road, it may swing out in an angle. For a clearer understanding of jackknifing, think of what a pocketknife looks like when one of the blades is exposed.
- Rollover accidents can occur in larger vehicles. Poor road conditions can contribute to truck rollovers as the center of gravity is higher.
