What does this mean? It means that those under the age of 18 are not allowed to buy these types of tobacco products. According to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there has been a drastic increase in e-cigarette usage among middle and high school students from 2011 to 2015. According to the report, high school students using vapors has increased from 1.5 percent in 2011 to a whopping 16 percent in 2015. This means that 3 million people under the age of 18 have used e-cigarettes in the last year.
According to the CDC, tobacco use is on a decline but e-cigarette use is rising. Many e-cigarette makers say that vapors are much safer since they don’t produce tar like a normal cigarette. However, the liquid that is used in vapors can contain flavorings that has been associated to lung issues such as irritation to a rare lung disease. In addition, vapors are designed to vaporize nicotine and many activists against e-cigarettes believe that it’s only a matter of time that kids will turn from vapors to the real thing.
E-cigarettes have been in the public eye lately after lawsuits have cropped up around the nation of exploding vapors cause by overcharging. With the new rules, which will take some time to go into effect since companies need time to comply, could the popularity of this product come to an end? Only time will tell.
