A Jersey City woman was injured last month when she slipped and fell on black ice. The woman was taking her garbage out when she slipped on the black ice in front of her building.
According to the woman, the condition of the property appeared clean and she did not notice any black ice while removing the garbage. However, black ice is transparent and is known as a danger to owners of commercial property. While the sidewalk may appear clear this doesn’t mitigate the owners’ responsibility to inspect the sidewalk and clean the area of black ice.
Because the owner failed to inspect and/or clean the sidewalk of black ice, the woman sustained a fracture of her arm requiring surgery. To complicate matters, she is incapable of returning to work and her lost wage claim is mounting every day. The woman claims that as a result of the owners she sustained severe and permanent injuries.
