Summertime Safety Tips, Part 7: Baby, It’s Hot Outside

heat injury law offices of anthony carboneWe’ve spent all spring wondering when the warm weather was going to arrive. Well, it’s here. With a vengeance.

According to the weather forecast, this weekend is going to be hot. In fact, the temperatures are supposed to be in the high 80s-low 90s for the rest of July. Oh yeah, it’s finally summertime in North Jersey.

Did you know that people living in urban areas are at greater risk from a prolonged heat wave than those living in rural areas? According to Ready.gov, the asphalt and concrete on our city streets can store heat longer then gradually release heat at night, producing higher nighttime temperatures which are known as “urban heat island effect.”

And as we all know from local news reports, an extended heat wave can be extremely dangerous, even life-threatening, especially to older adults, young children, and those who are sick or overweight. Our bodies must work hard to maintain a normal temperature in hot weather and this could push our bodies beyond its limits.

We want everyone to stay safe during this time of the year so here are a few heat safety tips from the American Red Cross to keep in mind:
