Car accidents aren’t the only problems you have to worry about while on vacation. For instance, if you are traveling abroad this summer, you have to worry about emergency situations, such as a natural disaster or civil unrest. If you’re just heading to a hotel for the weekend, you may have to deal with a possible fire.
Hey, we don’t want to scare you; we just want you to be safe while going out of town. So, with that in mind, here’s a few vacation safety tips you should follow before heading out on your vacation this summer:
- If you’re taking your car on a long road trip, make sure it’s in tip top shape. That means check the fluids, make sure the tires are inflated properly, and there is no recalls on the vehicle that could compromise your safety.
- If you’re heading out of the country, check in with the State Department. In fact, you should register your travel plans at the agency’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program so you can be contacted if an emergency arises.
- Leave an itinerary and emergency contact information with a family member or a friend who can alert authorities if something happens to you.
- Don’t flash around any cash or valuables. You never know who is watching.
- Keep an emergency car kit in case you break down. This should include a first aid kit, reflective warning signs, bottled water, and other important items.
