In a sense, JUUL is to e-cigarettes what Kleenex is to tissues. About everybody uses the brand names interchangeably. That said, JUUL says it’s unlike any e-cigarette or vape out on the marketplace. In the meantime, its marketing claims may be part of the reason you could have a case against this e-cigarette maker.
According to one research journal on tobacco control, JUULing has gained extreme popularity with children as young as middle school. Some aren’t even aware that there’s nicotine in the small USB sized device. Like all things nicotine, the chance for addiction represents a big problem.
Some blame the popularity of JUULing on targeted marketing campaigns. After all, the pods come in assorted flavors ranging from watermelon to mango to mint. For those who crave the taste of tobacco, there are JUUL pods available for their use.
In the meantime, some old-time regular cigarette smokers have bought into the concept of JUULing. While it’s true that e-cigarettes and vapes may be less harmful than cigarettes, the ill effects of nicotine still exist. One pod contains approximately 200 puffs, which is equivalent to a pack of cigarettes.
The dangers have made both national and state headlines. Last week, President Trump announced that his administration wants to ban flavored e-cigarettes. In New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy declared a task force to recommend possible restrictions on e-cigarettes.
More than one municipality already has an ordinance in place as far as selling e-cigarettes to minors. Their police force works together with the school district as far as enforcement.
Naysayers claim there’s much ado about nothing. However, you may already have a firsthand opinion that begs to differ.
Dangers of E-Cigarettes
- Product liability claims – the cigarettes were not only hazardous. The manufacturers also failed to warn of their dangers.
- Negligent advertising – Smoking sounded all too good and didn’t mention the harm of nicotine
- Issues with improper manufacture
How much does this look like current claims involving JUULing? Just about everyone has heard of the young man whose lungs resemble those of a 70-year-old. Additionally, some e-cigarettes have exploded. However, here are some additional health issues that you may already notice:
- Addiction problems
- Behavioral changes
- Brain development issues leading to mood disorders
- Lung disease
- Increased risk of cancer and heart disease
Six deaths have previously been attributed to vaping or the use of e-cigarettes. Unfortunately, it appears the product isn’t harm-free at all.
