First, please know that there is always help for domestic violence victims. You are never alone in this situation. There are many organizations out there willing to help you through this traumatic situation.
If you’re not sure how to start the process of leaving, here’s a few tips you can follow:
- Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
- Create an escape plan – make sure you’re ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Practice leaving quickly and quietly and make sure you memorize a list of contacts who are ready to help you.
- Contact a domestic violence support program in your area to help you after you leave. You can find a list of domestic violence programs for New Jersey here.
- File a restraining order, especially if your abuser is stalking you.
- Make sure you have a safe place to go once you leave. If you don’t trust going to a family and friend, try an emergency shelter.
And when you’re ready, contact the Law Offices of Anthony Carbone, PC. We are prepared to help you out of this situation. Don’t let someone abuse you and your children any longer.
