This past weekend was a particularly bad one for motorcycle crashes. One news story tells of two fatal accidents that occurred in Morris County. One involved a Union City man.

However, that’s not all. Another feature article provides the story of a couple who were on the same bike sharing the sights across the state. Sadly, they not only shared the ride; they also died together when the motorcycle crashed.

Overall, some accidents are the result of inclement weather. Nevertheless, this is not the case for motorcycle crashes. Sunny days mean more and more bikes on the road. As a result, there is an increase in the number of catastrophic incidents involving injuries or death.

Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

If you are a biker, you are keenly aware of the potential hazards associated with operating a motorcycle. Notwithstanding, you can take every precaution in the world. Unfortunately, the idea of taking safety measures isn’t entirely on you.

Of course, there are the cases where someone hops on the bike while intoxicated. Or, insists on weaving in and out of traffic. And, then again, there are motorcycle operators who think nothing of white lining.

Some might be amazed at what really factors into motorcycle crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), at least two-thirds of bike accidents were not the fault of the individual operating the motorcycle. Here is a list of some of the most common causes of crashes involving bikers and another vehicle:

Without question, it is easy to determine why motorcycle accidents can translate into tragic events. For one, helmets can only safeguard against limited amounts of forceful contact. Therefore, there is the potential for traumatic brain injury. Additionally, the open exposure can result in fractures or internal injuries. Less than fifty percent of motorcycle crashes involve only minor injuries. For those that led to death, trauma occurred in either the head or chest region.

Like any other accident, bikers have concerns about securing medical bill payment. In a prior article, we provided basic information regarding available benefits. However, it is highly suggested that you seek the services of an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss your accident and the steps necessary to make a claim.
