When you purchased your Volkswagen, one of the features you were probably most proud of was the “CleanDiesel” option. However, your car may not be as green as you once though it was.
In September 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had accused the carmaker of installing software into its diesel cars in the United States in an effort to avoid federal emission regulations. Instead of a car that met the nation’s Clean Air Act standards, these “CleanDiesel” vehicles are emitting nitrogen oxides up to 40 times the standard level, according to the EPA.
If you have Volkswagen that runs on diesel fuel, you may be affected by this recall. The nitrogen oxides can exacerbate current respiratory conditions such as asthma.
Volkswagen Vehicles Affected by the Recall
Volkswagen has admitted to selling about 482,000 vehicles in the US with the software. But according to Consumer Reports, as many as 11 million vehicles worldwide may be affected.
Currently, these are the impacted models:
- 2010-2015 Audi A3
- 2016 Audi A6 Quattro
- 2016 Audi A7 Quattro
- 2016 Audi A8/A8L
- 2016 Audi Q5
- 2015 Porsche Cayenne
- 2012-2015 Volkswagen Beetle and Beetle Convertible
- 2010-2015 Volkswagen Golf
- 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
- 2009-2015 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta SportWagen
- 2012-2015 Volkswagen Passat
- 2014 Volkswagen Touareg
