If you are a regular reader of this blog, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Hey it’s summer. It’s not time for slip and fall accident blogs.” Well, that is true. Most slip and fall accidents do take place in the winter months but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen in the summer. Instead of an icy sidewalk, you could slip poolside. Or maybe the store’s air conditioner is leaking water, leaving a dangerous puddle in your path.
Slip and fall accidents can happen at any time, especially with older adults. In fact, one out of three older adults falls each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 25,500 older adults had died from unintentional fall injuries.
We want everyone out there to be safe this summer. And in continuing effort to keep your summer injury free, the Law Offices of Anthony Carbone would like to offer some safety tips on avoiding slip, trip, and fall accidents:
- Pay close attention to your surroundings. See that puddle of water on the floor at your local grocery store? Try to avoid it.
- Try to adjust your stride for the floor surface. Is it a bit slippery? Go a little slower than you usually do.
- Make sure you can see any obstructions up ahead and avoid when possible.
- Walk in well-lit areas so you can see the conditions of the floor ahead.
