“Getting into a workplace accident? That won’t happen to me!”
You may have said or thought this whenever you read one of our blogs. And it’s true, many of us will thankfully never get into an accident while on the job. But you would be surprised how common it is to get injured while working, even if you are an office worker. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 3 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in the private sector that were reported in 2013. This is a decline from previous years, but it’s still a very high number. And most of these accidents can be prevented.
So what kind of injuries are people getting into while on the job? You would be surprised, it’s not all construction or manufacturing work. Here are 10 of the most common injuries that result in workers’ compensation claims:
- Overexertion injuries. These include pushing, pulling, holding, carrying, even throwing activities.
- Slip and falls
- Falling from a height
- Reaction injuries. For example, you trip over something but you don’t fall. The accident may have caused a sprained ankle.
- Falling objects
- Injures that involve walking into an object, such as walking into a cabinet or a door.
- Auto accidents
- Injuries caused by machine
- Repetitive motion injuries, such as carpal tunnel or back pain.
- On the job violent acts like a an argument with a co-worker.
