Spring meltdown can cause slip and fall accidents

spring-slip-and-fall-conditionsIt looks like spring has finally sprung! Although we could get another snowstorm, warmer temperatures are finally in the forecast and there’s no sign of snow in the near future. Is it foolish to hope that the weather has finally turned?

However, with the change in temperature, there is still a chance of slip and fall accidents occurring, especially at night. With above freezing temperatures during the day, that melting snow pile can quickly become a sheet of ice by the time the sun goes down. And while you are leaving your house to go to work the next morning, you may not realize danger until it’s too late.

So don’t be fooled by the warmer weather! Remember to take the following precautions before going out in the morning:

  • Before walking out the door, take a look around at your surroundings. Although it may be hard to see black ice, if the pavement is wet, you can imagine ice or snow is around.
  • If it’s been warm all day, throw down some snow melt down on slippery surfaces to keep the ice and snow away.
  • If you almost slip in a store parking lot or on the sidewalk in front of a business, make sure you inform the business employees so they can take measures to protect their customers.
  • And always use common sense. You know this a sloppy time of the year. Just be careful and ever vigilant and you’ll be fine.
