Watch Out! New Jersey Pedestrian Accidents Are on The Rise

Recently in Pleasantville, New Jersey, a woman was tragically killed when a dump truck swerved to avoid people near a sidewalk and struck her as she was standing on the sidewalk. The dump truck driver told police he swerved to avoid pedestrians near the crosswalk. The dump truck also hit a parked car in a driveway, severely damaging it.
No other information about the incident is available as the investigation continues.
Recent Statistics About New Jersey Pedestrian Accidents
Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents like this happen all too often. Luckily, only one person was killed instead of the many that could have died. But, there have been too many instances of multiple fatalities being the end result of pedestrian accidents in New Jersey.
According to the most recent report from the New Jersey State Police, there have already been 83 pedestrian fatalities resulting from motor vehicle accidents this year. In 2017, there were 184 fatalities resulting from pedestrian accidents, with another 160 killed in 2016. If the past is any type of indicator, look for this year’s total of pedestrian fatalities to drastically increase as we get closer to the fall and winter.
As you can see, pedestrian accidents are among the deadliest motor vehicle accidents that can happen. A pedestrian has no protection from an object that is traveling too fast at a weight that is roughly 3,000 pounds or more.
