The end of the year is upon us and what a year 2015 has been. There have been many highs and many lows this year. And as everyone does at the start of new year, we begin to ponder how to change our lives for the better in the upcoming year. While you promise to lose weight, quit smoking, and finally get in shape, don’t forget to take care of some legal matters in 2016.
Here’s a few resolutions you should consider for the next year:
- Clean up your legal record. Got trouble in your youth? Have an old criminal record that you can’t shake? It is possible to get your record expunged. If it’s been more than 10 years since your offense and you haven’t committed any crimes since, all you have to do is make a motion to have your record expunged. That easy!
- Take a second look at your car insurance. Maybe you have a perfect driving record. Or you just didn’t have the money for a good policy. Whatever the case may be, you probably missed something when you bought your car insurance. This is why you should take a look at your car insurance to see what exactly you are covered for. Many times after an auto accident, you learn the hard way that what you thought you were covered for you actually weren’t.
- Been separated long? Get that divorce. If you and your spouse have been separated for more than a year, no matter what you think, chances are you’re not going to get back together. By staying separated, you’re hurting not only yourself but the well-being of your children. Now is the time to sit down and tell your estranged spouse to get a divorce lawyer.
- Did work cause your injury? Apply for workers’ compensation. Do you have carpal tunnel syndrome? Or may you were diagnosed with a disease like mesothelioma. Whatever the illness may be, if the root cause is because of your job, you have a workers’ compensation case. You don’t have to break a leg at work to apply for workers’ comp. Any type of illness or injury that is a direct result of your work or your workplace environment is a case of workers’ compensation.
