The borough of Dumont, New Jersey, was created from portions of Harrington and Palisades townships in 1894 and was named the Borough of Schraalenburgh. It changed its name to Dumont in honor of its first mayor, Dumont Clarke. Dumont is home to the Newbury Academy, a private alternative high school that was founded in neighboring Teaneck in 2001.
